Sony bravia tv problems

Sony Bravia televisions are great-looking flat-panel displays with a myriad of picture and sound settings. Often these menu and remote control functions can be confusing. When troubleshooting closed-caption problems on your Sony Bravia TV, it's important to understand how closed captioning works and the settings your TV uses to access it. Closed captioning allows the viewer to read the text of a show in real-time at the bottom of the screen.

It is helpful for those who are deaf, hard of hearing, or just want to watch TV in a noisy room. Video games are also not required to offer closed captioning.

If you're having trouble with your Bravia's closed captioning, check with its menu first. Bravia LCD televisions have a menu option dedicated to their control and appearance.

Pressing "Menu" on your remote control will access the main menu. The closed-captioning options are in a sub-menu under "Setup. If the closed-captioned text is too small or the wrong color or language, use these menu settings to change them. Movies and pre-recorded shows automatically display the text perfectly, while live TV often depends on a typist following the show and typing text in real-time. If the typist cannot keep up, the closed captions may be misspelled and dialogue may be omitted.

A weak cable or antenna signal will also cause the text to be garbled or unreadable. When watching a DVD movie, ensure the closed captioning and language settings are correct using the remote control or the DVD's on-screen menu. Share this article. It can be easy to panic and think it's time to purchase a new TV, however it's likely that your problem can be fixed by troubleshooting the various causes of a Sony TV that won't turn on.

Common causes include power and TV input issues. Unplug the power cable from the back of your Sony TV and then plug it back in securely. Plug the other end of this cable into a different outlet and try to turn the TV on. If the power works then you may have an issue with the outlet that you previously plugged it into. If your TV still won't turn on, look on the side of the TV and make sure that the "Energy Saving Switch" is in the "On" position and then try to turn it on again.

Not all Bravia TVs will have this switch so if yours doesn't, proceed to the next step. Look for damage to the power cable and if damage is found, consider replacing the cable. Contact Sony to obtain a new power cable. Your Sony TV may appear to not turn on if the wrong input is selected on it. The TV is technically on but will show a totally blank screen.

Press the "Input" button to switch between the inputs until your TV picture returns. Your screen may be blank or become distorted if the input device's cable has gone bad. HDMI and component cables can go bad if they sustain liquid damage, are bent or become frayed due to a pet chewing on them. Replace the HDMI or component cable to fix this issue. You can purchase a new cable from most major retailers or can purchase new cables online.

If the cable that has gone bad belongs to your cable box, you may be able to get your cable provider to give you a replacement. Similar to a faulty component or HDMI cable, a faulty input device - such as a cable box - can cause your Sony TV to appear as if it is off. You will generally see a "No Input Signal" message and if replacing the HDMI or component cable does not resolve the problem, then it could be an issue with device itself. Try plugging the input device into another TV to see if it works.

If it does, then the issue may lie with your Sony TV. You can try plugging the input device into a different input port on your Sony TV to rule out a bad input port. If it still will not work, contact Sony to see what warranty options may exist for your TV to get the TV fixed. By : Michelle Carvo September 25, Share Share on Facebook. Pain in my butt and years of torture but finally solved. Thanks for your response. I have a new Sony Bravia TV and the volume on Playbar and the surrounds fades in and out, but only when listening to music, it never happens while watching TV. Has anyone else experienced that scenario? I usually suggest the phone folks, they have more tools available, but are available Monday through Friday during business hours. There may be information included in the diagnostic that will help Sonos pinpoint the issue and help you find a solution.

Thank you, I should have added slightly more context, sorry about that. But each time the fading returned while streaming music almost as soon as we got off the phone. I plugged the TV back in and the fading returned within a few minutes while streaming music. Mind you it never fades while watching TV. If I can isolate why it is sending errant signals to Playbar while streaming music perhaps I can address it.

Thanks again for your thoughts. Most odd. My thought is it would be either on or off.

This kind of problem is usually an indication that the set has a bad LCD screen, which is bad news for you. Those are two problems that are common to Sony Bravia televisions, but there are other issues that usually happen with LCD TVs in general.

Here are some troubleshooting tips that you can follow in case you encounter some issues with your Sony LCD TV or any other brand of TV for that matter. If your set will not turn on, then check the power line and the power supply.

It might not be getting any power at all. Choose the Auto Program function on your remote if you are not receiving any channels. This feature will allow your TV to pick up channels that are not stored in its memory. Make sure that the set is far from possible interference sources like microwave ovens, cordless phones, and cable leads.

Place your TV back to the factory settings by doing the following: Press the up arrow key and the power key at the same time. Then release the up key, and that will erase any settings that you have made. These are some of the things that you can do to resolve issues on your Sony TV. If these steps do not work then you should call Sony support or a repair man. Never attempt to open up the set or do anything more than what we have recommended here unless you are quite confident about what you are doing.
